God Movement Principles

1. Abiding Fruitfulness:

There is no movement without abiding prayer and connectedness to Christ. Greater fruitfulness comes through pruning. Even fruitful trees are pruned so they can bear more fruit. (John 15:1-11; Matt. 7:7-11; 1 John 3:21-22)

2. God at Work

God is at work before we get there - our job is to discern what He is doing and join Him in His work. (John 5:17, 19-20; Acts 8:26-40; Deut. 31:8)

3. Unique Contribution:

Every person has a role to play. People thrive when we discover their natural motivations, and we encourage them to offer their unique contribution to the whole. (Rom. 12:4-8; 1 Cor. 3:6-9; Eph. 4:16)

4. Natural Social Networks:

The gospel spreads fastest when moving through relational ties, natural social networks and pre-existing community. (John 1:40-51; John 4:28-30; Matt. 9:10-11; Luke 24:32-35; Acts 10:24)

5. Urban Spaces:

The church is to take Kingdom redemption to where people live, work, learn, play and meet online. When the church withdraws from places of darkness and lostness, retreating to our “holy spaces,” we lose vitality and movement dies. (Luke 5:3; Acts 19:8-10)

6. Brokenness & Lostness:

The Kingdom of Heaven moves towards brokenness and lostness. God works through broken people to bring healing to the brokenness around them. The leaders for the broken are among the broken. (Luke 4:18-19; Matt. 25:31-36; Mark 5:19-20)

7. Teams of Ordinary People:

God often works through ordinary, (theologically) unschooled, unpaid people to do His work and to lead movements. Insider leaders are more effective than outside leaders. (Acts 4:13; 1 Cor. 1:26-30)
