How to Work

2024-03-01

Often when I have a specific task I need to acheive, writing this blog post for example, I struggle to get started, focus or make progress. The most effective tool I have come across is this simple four step process:

  1. Decide what to complete
  2. Decide how long I need (25-53mins)
  3. Close everything unrelated to the task
  4. Do the work

If the work takes longer than one 25-53min session I take a short break and then return to it. Close everything is usually closing every program, every tab, sometimes my laptop, removing my phone, etc...
If I do all that, I find that I'm able to get the task done. If I don't do that I might still work, but on little things here and there that aren't as important. Important work is important.
